Members,

Today Reggie Sellers earned his Private Pilot license.  Yesterday Bill Zerfas earned his Instrument rating.  Congratulations to both of them.

The next ground class is thursday August 16th in the T-Craft hanger at 7:00 pm.  The subject is basic GPS navigation.  We will be using a Garimn 295 handheld for our discussion.

Jim Hudson sent me an e-mail regarding the change in FSS and filing flight plans. The following is that e-mail and I have had similar experiences with the new service.

Hi Jeff,

You probably know that the BOI flight service has closed as of July 23rd and moved to Prescott.  I found out last Sunday when I called the local FSS number and was directed to 800- WX-BRIEF.  After about a 15 min wait on hold, I was able to file a flight plan and get a briefing.  While in the air, I tried to amend my flt. plan, and could not get a break to get on while still on frequency.  The guy was taking flight plans and giving briefings over the radio - maybe because of the long waits.  I would advise to file a flight plane via DUATS if possible, and try to get a briefing expecting to wait.  Maybe it will get better.  I also heard of some bad experiences with them loosing the flight plan.  Suggest you pass this on to club members.

Thanks,

Jim

Happy and Safe flying.
